Open Access Policy — Georgian Medical Journal (GMJ)

Open Access statement

Georgian Medical Journal (GMJ) is a fully open access journal. All articles are freely available online immediately upon publication, without subscription or registration barriers. Readers may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of GMJ articles.

License and reuse

Unless otherwise specified, GMJ articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This permits sharing, adaptation, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
Attribution format: Author(s). Article title. Georgian Medical Journal. Year;Volume(Issue):Pages. DOI.

Copyright and author rights

Authors retain copyright in their work and grant GMJ a non-exclusive license to publish, identify itself as the original publisher, and disseminate the Version of Record.

Article processing charges (APCs) and fees

  • GMJ does not charge submission fees.

  • At present, no APCs are required for accepted manuscripts. If APCs are introduced in the future, GMJ will announce transparent pricing and waiver/discount policies (including support for authors from low- and middle-income countries) on the journal website.

Self-archiving and preprints

  • Preprints: GMJ welcomes submissions previously posted to non-peer-reviewed preprint servers. The preprint DOI/URL should be disclosed at submission and noted in the published article.

  • Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) and Version of Record (VoR): Authors may immediately deposit the AAM or VoR in institutional or subject repositories, personal websites, or academic networks without embargo, provided the CC BY 4.0 license and the published DOI are included.

Peer review and openness

GMJ uses double-anonymised peer review. At the editor’s discretion, GMJ may offer transparent peer review (publication of reviewer reports and author responses with consent). Peer-review status does not limit reuse under CC BY 4.0.

Data, code, and materials

GMJ requires a Data Availability Statement. We strongly encourage depositing de-identified data, code, and materials in trusted repositories with persistent identifiers (e.g., DOIs). Data may carry different licenses; when possible, choose CC0 or CC BY-compatible licenses.

Text and data mining (TDM)

CC BY 4.0 permits text and data mining of GMJ content for any lawful purpose, provided proper attribution is given and third-party content is respected.

Third-party content

Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions for any third-party material not covered by CC BY 4.0 and for clearly labelling such material with the applicable rights statement in captions or acknowledgements.

Indexing, discoverability, and metadata

GMJ assigns Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to all items and exposes article-level metadata for indexing and discovery. We share machine-readable license information and encourage broad metadata reuse with attribution.

Preservation and permanence

GMJ ensures long-term preservation through reputable archiving services (e.g., PKP Preservation Network (LOCKSS/CLOCKSS)) and publisher backups, so articles remain accessible even in the event of platform changes.

Compliance with funder mandates

The CC BY 4.0 license, immediate open access, and permitted self-archiving are designed to help authors comply with institutional and funder requirements. Authors should check any specific mandate details and include required acknowledgements or data-sharing conditions.
